June Highlights
Last month at Myrtle House Nursery, the children engaged in a variety of fun and educational activities that kept them active and stimulated.
Learning About Caterpillars and Butterflies
The youngest group, under 2 years old, delved into the world of caterpillars and butterflies. They participated in numerous arts and crafts projects, likely involving painting and crafting butterfly shapes. The children also explored a summer fruits theme, which included cutting fruit, incorporating fruit into water play, and engaging in other related activities. These exercises not only taught them about the lifecycle of butterflies but also helped in honing their fine motor skills.
Outdoor Play and Hand-Eye Coordination
Outdoor play was a highlight for the children, especially as they enjoyed the sunny weather. They practiced their hand-eye coordination by catching paper clip fish, an activity that was both fun and developmental. The sea-themed tuff tray was another popular feature, allowing the kids to explore marine life in a sensory-rich environment.
Garden Fun and Butterfly Release
Playing in the gardens brought many exciting moments. The children participated in a variety of activities, including the memorable experience of releasing butterflies that they had nurtured from caterpillars. They also built giant Lego towers, played in the sand pit, and practiced mark-making with water and brushes. Other garden activities included mini-beast hunting, enjoying the herb garden’s scents, and riding scooters and trikes. These activities promoted physical development, sensory exploration, and an understanding of nature.
Wildflower Picking and Creative Projects
Older children had the opportunity to visit the gardens at Myrtle House to pick wildflowers. This adventure allowed them to explore nature and collect a variety of colourful flowers. Upon returning to the nursery, they shared their floral finds with friends and engaged in creative projects such as making daisy chains and threading flowers through cards to create beautiful pictures. This activity combined outdoor exploration with creative arts and crafts.
Beach and Sea-Themed Week
A beach and sea theme dominated one week, offering a diverse range of activities:
Nature Pictures: Creating art using natural materials.
Sand Play: Playing in sand pits, building castles and digging.
Sensory Trays: Exploring different textures and materials related to the sea.
Foam Messy Play: Enjoying tactile play with foam.
Water Play: Splashing and playing with water, likely involving toys and tools.

Creative and Messy Play
In the weeks leading up to Father’s Day, the under 2's engaged in creative activities, making special creations to celebrate the occasion. They also enjoyed water play and edible messy play using Cheerios, which allowed for safe and sensory-rich exploration. The outdoor area provided ample opportunities for them to play and enjoy the sunny weather, contributing to their overall physical and social development.
Happy Faces and Warm Weather
Throughout the month, the children frequently enjoyed playing outdoors in the warm weather. The nursery ensured that the children made the most of these sunny days with a variety of engaging and developmental activities, resulting in lots of happy faces and joyful experiences.
Overall, Myrtle House Nursery provided a well-rounded and enriching experience for the children, blending educational themes with plenty of outdoor and creative play. The activities were designed to foster physical, social, and cognitive development, ensuring that the children had a fun and productive month.
